ANALYZING SINGLE CELLS OVER TIME
Many measurements performed on fixed samples can be performed on live cells over time. Typically, this involves use of engineered cells expressing fluorescently-tagged proteins.
The advantage of live-cell imaging is that it enables monitoring of kinetics associated with the biological process of interest.
In the schematic example shown on the right, over a 30 minute period the intensity of the protein depicted in green increases. However, the rate at which the protein accumulates is different in some cells compared others.
